Inspiration: Early 1900s Film Footage

After seeing "The Artist" recently I became very interested in watching silent films. I had never actually seen one before that because I didn't really think it would keep my attention but wow, I was completely wrong! After watching a few silent films this week, mainly from the late 1920s, I got a bit curious in general about the history of film including the transition from silent to "talkies" as well as when color was introduced. With a little google research I found some really interesting early 1900s film shorts, some of my favorites of which are above. The first is an absolutely stunning test of Kodachrome color motion picture film from 1922. The second is a mind blowing hand colored dance short from 1899. The third is just... ridiculousness circa 1895.

Anyone else out there into old films, silent or not, and want to share some for favorites with me? :)

Happy Saturday! I wore this little number today for a pretty mellow and uneventful afternoon. Slept in a bit this morning which was nice then mostly worked on freelance projects and watched silly dance tv shows. Pretty epic day hah. Going to a crazy 90s themed dance party tonight though which should redeem the low keyness of my Saturday. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far :)

This is another one of my favorite vintage dresses that has been in my closet for a couple of years but I don't think I've ever photographed it. I absolutely love the neckline and the fullness of the skirt which is extremly good for twirling around in :)

I'm pretty excited about the weekend. Going to hang out with some good friends I haven't seen in awhile and also go to a 90s dance party (!!) I have no idea what I'm going to wear yet but I hope it to be very brightly colored and possibly involve a fanny pack. I am planning on photo documenting the event so stay tuned for some crazy pictures. Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend? :)

Phoenix Favs: The Crescent Ballroom

The Crescent Ballroom, one of my most favorite places in all of Phoenix celebrated 100 days of being in business yesterday and I am so glad! This music venue was much needed in Phoenix and has already hosted so many talented musicians. Saturday night I went with a few friends to see What Laura Says, Brian Lopez and Yellow Minute, and it was absolutely fantastic! If you are a Phoenician and haven't checked out the Crescent yet, you probably should. It may just complete your life. Or at least your social life. On top of fantastic music, they also have very tasty burritos (random I know ha) and delicious sangria :) Check.it.out!

New Thrift: Fabulous Red Coat

I recently thrifted this red coat at Goodwill for $8 and I am in love! It's light enough for the Arizona Winters and just all around snazzy. I absolutely love the buttons and the cut is too perfect. So glad I found this beaut! Anyone else thrift anything awesome lately? :)

You may also notice that I am wearing pants. PANTS!!! I actually where pants A LOT (as opposed to dresses which I mainly post here) but I usually don't feel that my "pants outfits" are exciting or inspiring enough to take photos of hah. I feel like many style bloggers are the same way, maybe I'm wrong? Anyways I'm having the kind of day where I'm running a million errands and trying to get a lot done so I decided this outfit worked pretty well :)

This is one of my all time favorite vintage dresses. I found it at Buffalo Exchange a couple of years ago when I was looking for an outfit to wear to a big art show I had coming up. I absolutely love the color and cut. Makes me feel like such a lady!

Hope everyone is having an excellent weekend! I've had quite a busy one filled with lots of friends and fun times. Friday night I went to a What Laura Says Thinks and Feels show at the Crescent Ballroom which was INCREDIBLE. Last night went to another Gospel Lee show and took a TON of photos as his official photographer. Then went to see "The Artist" which was an incredible silent film about silent films. Super rad, I highly recommend. Finished off the evening with some of my favorite people at SideBar. A pretty wonderful weekend if you ask me :-)

I recently thrifted this super saucy lil red dress that was supposed to be for the shop but I think I may have to keep it for myself! It's such a spunky dress. It demands WEAR ME NOW! LET'S GO ON DATES! LET'S DANCE! The crazy extra layer of hip poof definitely makes me wider looking than normal which makes me a tiny bit self conscious but I think it's okay. A lil bit more curviness would probably do me good ha.

I've been designing websites like crazy lately! Above is a site I recently designed for a really cool local jewelry studio, Harold Studio. If you are a Phoenician and you love jewelry or making things in general this is something you have to check out. Basically it's a place where you can take jewelry making classes or rent your own personal studio space. They also just started a really cool wedding ring workshop where you and your fiance can go in and design and create your wedding rings together. Super cool, right?? I did all art direction, design and coding for the website and I think it came out pretty neat :)

So I decided to go a bit darker on the red and I really like it! Unfortunately red fades pretty fast so it won't be this dark for long but I think it'll fade better than the more orangey red I've been going with lately. I happened to find a darker shade of lipstick in my makeup bag this morning that matched my hair perfectly which is a little bit creepy little bit awesome. It made me feel a little bit goth grunge so I decided to wear this fun 90s Velvet Rampage dress.

On a side note one of my semi New Years resolution things is to get out of my garage and a little bit more creative with my outfit photos. It mostly means asking people for help and getting out of my comfort zone with the possibility of other people seeing me make weird faces and poses ha.

Music Monday: Gospel Lee at the RAGE Music Festival Phoenix

Saturday I spent the day at the RAGE Music Festival as the official photographer of Hip Hop genius and my dear friend, Gospel Lee. He ended up playing two different sets, one on the local stage and one on the main stage. This was his first ever festival so it was really really cool that he got to play on the main stage. Both sets were absolutely INCREDIBLE. The music was fantastic as usual and his performance was crazy energetic. The audience got pretty into it and there was a pretty good crowd for both sets. Overall it was a really fun day and so cool to get to see Gospel in action doing something that he was obviously supernaturally gifted and born to do.

Hello lovely blog readers! So I was kind of on a roll with blogging every single day and then I completely dropped off the planet for a few days womp womp. I've been super busy with a few exciting projects one being a little revamp the Kitten Paws Vintage website. Finally uploaded it a few minutes ago and am still changing things around a bit and adding a few more items but for now it's good and it's up ha. Just a few silly pictures and a tiny happy dance to say that today Kitten Paws Vintage turns three years old! It's crazy to think that my fun little side project that initially started as a desire to get more into fashion photography has become sort of a legitimate thing hah :)

This year has been kind of a big one for me. I meant to do some sort of reflective New Years post and it didn't happen so this will kind of be it... or part of it at least ha. Some highlights from this past year have been doing lots of awesome photoshoots with so many lovely people, having my first local pop up shop, getting lots of really nice press, having artwork at some legit galleries, getting voted Best Style Blog by the Phoenix New Times, launching my line of handmade Flower Crowns and my most favorite thing ever of the year, doing a photoshoot for NYLON Magazine! Seriously I feel so blessed and excited for so many positive things in such a short amount of time. I've been brewing some crazy personal and professional plans and goals for this upcoming year (which I hope to share soon!) and I am so so ecstatic to continue to move forward and to grow. Hope everyone is having a wonderful new year so far! Can't wait to continue to share my journey with you all :)

Decentralized Dance Party Phoenix!

Oh man! Way too much fun for a Wednesday night. Just got back from Phoenix's Decentralized Dance Party aka a massive flash mob like traveling street dance party! The party travels by way of many portable boomboxes carried on the shoulders of party people all tuned in to the same frequency a dj in the crowd is transmitting from. Danced quite a bit with my awesome roomies, participated in Arizonas largest and most awkward congo line and watched break-dancing horses, gorillas and banana-mans! What a crazy time! The event was put on by Tom and Gary's Dynamic Dance Party Delivery Service which is currently touring throughout Canada and America bringing dance party to the streets. Pretty much my dream come true, hah!! If they are coming to your city, be sure to join in on the fun! So great.

After a week of not blogging I have so much to share! This week on top of a mass amount of celebration I managed to fit in two photoshoots with some of my favorite ladies who were my first ever Kitten Paws models. They both have moved away in the last year and a half, Jess to LA and Miss Elina to NYC but were in town for the holidays so a snagged them for a quick afternoon of photoshooting. I decided I'm going to break the shoots up into a few different posts because there were so many great images.

The first shoot with Jess I had her in several different vintage wedding gowns and some new headpieces I had made. Crazy photo shoot story - We shot at is this beaaautiful grove that's on the property of this church called, The Grove. We went inside to say hi and use the bathroom and the Pastor who happened to marry my friend Jess who was modeling the wedding gowns and her husband Adam who was also with us shooting some video, happened to be sitting at the front desk. How weird is that??! This is a church somewhat in the middle of no where that none of us had gone to so I think it was pretty funny and strange. Any who above is probably my favorite piece I shot all week. I'll be sharing more photos in the next few days on the blog and am currently as we speak making a massive shop update. Lots of new dresses, awesome coats and handmade flower headpieces. Check check check it!

Green Machine

This is currently one of favorite vintage dresses. I absolutely love the cut and color and all the pretty little details. The fabric is a soft cotton which makes it extremely comfortable and practical, bonus points ♥ I found it at a Buffalo Exchange right before may first solo show a few months ago when I was looking for something to make my artists debut in and I've worn it many a times since.

The last couple of days have been overall pretty rad. Today was kind of meh but the weekend was awesome. I got to catch up with a girlfriend (miss Kalani) on Thursday who I hadn't seen in quite awhile and it was a really a wonderful time. So glad we got to hang out. Did a super fun photoshoot yesterday with a couple of ladies which may or may not have involved an impromptu scene with the ice cream man. I actually have a giant (prob 2.5 feet tall) fantastic glitter ice cream cone that sometimes makes it's way into photoshoots but it was no where to be found. Boo! I've also been spending a lot of time lately working on a website for a really cool jewelry studio in downtown Phoenix, Harold Studio, which will be launching very soon. Lots of great people and fun projects going on ♥

Over the weekend I went to two different amazing shows one of which the band He's My Brother She's My Sister was playing. I hadn't heard of them until that morning when a friend invited me to the show but after watching several YouTube videos I knew I had to see them live. Sooo glad I did! They had such an incredible sound and their percussion just happens to be a girl tap dancing on top of a drum. Seriously ON TOP of a drum! Oh yeah, and did I mention they rock the vintage like nobodies business??! Pretty Fantastic.....

I've only worn it out a couple of times including last night to a really great show at the Sail Inn. I try to wear flowers in my hair as much as possible and this headband is one of my favorites. I always love a pretty vintage cameo necklace so this one which I recently found at Buffalo Exchange has found a special place in my wardrobe. The shoes I have been wearing A TON lately with both dresses and jeans. I found them about a month and a half ago at a thrift store and even though they were a size or two too big I knew they had to come home with me.

Winter Sunset: Photoshoot

Over the weekend Katherine, Nicole and I did a little photoshoot with some items that will be going up in the shop soon at a friends super awesome place in Apache Junction. The weather was amazing and the sunset was absolutely stunning. We had a little bit less time / light than I thought we would but it was pretty worth it to catch the sunset on film in the backdrop.

I remember a couple of winters ago I was in oversees in a place much colder than here and there was no sunsets all winter. It's kind of something I had never thought about much but Arizona really does have the best sunsets. It's pretty ridiculous hot 5 months out of the year but right now the weather is absolutely perfect and I am so glad to be here. I definitely need to take advantage of the amazing weather and start doing more shoots.

Does anyone else watch America's Next Top Model? I've watched seasons here and there but one of my absolute favorite ladies has always been Miss Allison Harvard. This season I was super excited to hear she was being brought back to compete again in the Americas Next Top Model All Stars season. She obviously has an incredible look but she's also extremely quirky and just all around fantastic. She is known for her giant eyes and being a bit of an odd ball (in the most delightful way ever). Also a total no drama sweetheart and vintage dress lover. I really do think we'd be friends in real life if she wasn't a super famous TV person. Love herrrr!

Phoenix Fashion Week

Saturday evening I went to my first ever Phoenix Fashion Week event and it was a blast!! It was the first time I'd seen a larger runway show so it was extra exciting. My favorite designer of the evening was Silvia Bours who finaled the second runway show of emerging designers. Her clothing included extreme amounts of tulle, sequins, hand painted corset style tops, and many other beautiful details. Basically princess dresses that little girls and big girls dream of owning and wearing. I really really wanted all of the dresses even (actually especially) the one she came out wearing. Love love love!

Andre and I had the most excellent day date yesterday at The Farm At South Mountain. We got brunch at their Morning Glory Cafe and it was absolutely deeellish! I got the South Mountain Omelet which I would HIGHLY recommend if you are a local. Goat cheese + local farm grown veggies + salsa verde =yum town. After brunch we walked around snapped a few photos and talked about life. It was quite a wonderful and refreshing time.

My First Solo Photo Show!

This past week I was invited to do a solo show at a really great gallery in Downtown Phoenix, Kitchen Sink Studios! This is actually my very first solo show so I'm quite excited. Last weekend we had just set up for Michelle's photoshoot when I spotted Mr Tortuga roaming around the backyard. He only comes out once a day for maybe a half an hour and it's usually later in the day so I was surprised to see him out. Naturally I couldn't resist and decided to take advantage of the timing and snap a few "glamour" shots in the scene we had set up. Ridiculous, I know. I love this lil guy.... :)

Triple M Apparel Lookbook Shoot

Over the weekend I got to do a super fun photo shoot with my friend Michelle for her clothing line Triple M Apparel. Above are a few of my favorite images from the shoot. One really cool thing about her clothing is that she uses unexpected recycled materials to make most of her garments. She's recently gotten into making things out of table cloths. Examples above - white lace jacket, green dress and purple dress ALL made out of table cloths. So cool!!

8 Mile Hike and an EPIC Weekend

Went on quite an epic day trip over the weekend to Fossil Springs. Hiked 8 miles. Almost lost a friend who slipped and fell off a cliff and into an enclosed whirpool/vortex/deathtrap. Was luckily saved by another friend, Christian, who had magical toe shoes that allowed him to scale the sides of dangerous mountains and lift him to safety. Played in the water and had fishies bite our toes. Finished the hike, everyone alive and intact, and stopped on the way home to a very *ahem* redneck bar restaurant where the birthday girl of the trip, Sarah, was heckled by a cowboy regular to sing A Capella into a mic "Just a Small Town Girl". Ate pie and burgers then drove home in possibly, a tornado. Yeah.... EPIC. (I am a woman hear me roar!!)

Dreamy spaces and amazing ladies: Shae Detar and Hannah Metz

As mentioned in previous posts it is still very very warm here in the desert (AZ) I've started to get really antsy and kind of super bummed out not being able to run a muck in the wilderness taking photos. I had a friend approach me a couple of months ago wanting to do a shoot and have been putting it off because of the heat but I can no longer I NEEED to photoshoot. My soul is going to start being even sadder with out it!

Our resolution, an inside shoot more focused on the styling of the space. Well most focused on the awesome clothing that she designed and will be wearing but also focused on making a cool space because my house just ain't as beautiful as the flowers and the grass and sun and the wilderness. Also I definitely have not mastered the art of non-natural lighting so anything I can do to make a photo more interesting, the better. At some point in the near future I'd like to have a well designed living space that also doubles as a place where I can take photos but right now I'm on a super budget and this space will be highly temporary including many borrowed things. It will definately be a learning experience for sure and I'm super stoked.

I finally got new business cards printed up for Kitten Paws, yay! I got a very small run printed about a year and a half which have long run out so I am super excited about these lil guys. They are super simple which works quite well for what I need them for. My personal favorite highlights were: getting serenaded by the Ragamuffin Stampede all evening, the really delicious goat cheese/pesto/sun dried tomato + bread snackies, Andre finding and purchasing a sweet new wallet made out of a tie by Wallets for Water, my awesome friends who came to hang out + support, and generally meeting a ton of really fantastic people. Kitten Paws Vintage Pop Up Shop!

Kitten Paws Vintage is having a pop-up sale this weekend at New City Studio for downtown Phoenix's First Fridays artwalk! There will be a ton of super cute vintage for sale at special local discounted prices (think an average of $10-20!) and as I mentioned a few blog posts ago I'm going to have some of my handmade headbands for sale for the first time ever!

New City Studio is a pretty incredible gallery which this month will be featuring some great local fashion photographers - Nick Duplessis, Trevor Dayley and styling by Mallory Jarvis. A really cool non profit called Wallets for Water will also be there collecting ties and selling wallets made out of ties to help raise money to build wells, super rad!

As if art, vintage and Wallets for Water isn't exciting enough there will also be music by Ragamuffin Stampede and tasty wine! Come join!!! The event runs 6-10 pm this Friday evening :-)

Reflections

One of my absolute favorite things to do in life is take photos of people. I went to school for graphic design which I also enjoy very much but there's something about photography that I really connect with more than anything. I've taken a total of about 3 photography classes so I have a little bit of training but most of my knowledge as a photographer has just been from going and trying new things. I've been pretty specific about my preferred process - natural lighting and film. I've had a pretty good Digital SLR for a couple of years but most of the photos I've really cared about have been done in film up until recently. As I've gotten a little bit more serious about taking photos and have started taking on more commissioned jobs I've learned that I won't always be able to work in my preferred process or the most perfect lighting conditions and I really need to be constantly be learning and trying new things.

One new thing I've been doing a bit more of lately is using an external flash. I bought it about 3 years ago for my 35mm camera but didn't end up using it until recently when a friend probably in about 15 minutes showed me how to use it. I don't know why I was so intimidated for so long by the flash but I was. Anyways the last month I've been having a bit too much fun trying to learn how to best use it (as displayed in my previous post from the 80s party where I took a total of 500 photos in one evening, oh geez!!)

Today I was planning to do some outfit photos outside in the 115 degree weather, but then I got smart and decided to use my DSLR +Flash, in my kitchen. Seriously such a genius idea!! Seriously. I'm still a total rookie with this indoor stuff but I'm excited to constantly be learning new things and can't wait to see how my process as a photographer continues to grow and evolve. Anyways just a little bit of reflection and a few photos from the day... :)

80s Dance Party!

Last night we had our houses first ever party and it was a RIDICULOUS amount of fun!! It was 80s themed if you couldn't tell and a lot of people got pretty into it. We had dancing of course, food and tasty beverages and a sweet sparkly photo booth / dress up station. I took almost 500 photos during the course of the evening, ohhh my! It was definitely a party to remember and it seemed like everyone had a blast so yayy = success!! Hopefully we will have many more awesome silly themed and unthemed gatherings over the course of the next year :)

I absolutely love every single thing about these images! The dress, the model, the scenery, all the beautiful little details. Makes me want to find a beautiful Edwardian style wedding gown to get married in!

Currently I have a very pretty vintage wedding gown (not Edwardian style but still very cute) in my closet that was supposed to go in to the shop but it fit too perfectly and I couldn't bare so I decided to keep for myself haha! I am not engaged but do plan on getting married someday so why not have a dress ready! I'm still not sure if it's "the one" but I definitely have time to figure it out and if it's not I suppose I can always sell it ;)

Hello beautiful friends! I hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday! Today it is my plan to go thrifting and then make some new headbands. I made a handful of new ones yesterday including the one pictured above and I plan to actually have some for sale at the next Kitten Paws pop up shop which will be happening in a couple of weeks at a downtown phoenix first friday gallery. Yayy!! I've been planning this for awhile but I think I'm FINALLY happy enough with the craft that I am comfortable selling them :)

I was supposed to have a meeting this afternoon but it got canceled so I have the day to myself. Other plans include doodling, drinking coffee and maybe swimming later this evening. Yay for Saturdays!

Meet Mr. Tortuga

Anyone who has happened to visit my house or randomly perhaps follow me on twitter (I often post photos and videos of him) might know that I have a somewhat unusual backyard pet, a quite large desert tortoise! He's actually lived in the backyard of the house since the 1960s which makes him over 50 years old, wow! For the first month living in the house he was pretty much MIA. We thought the landlord might have changed her mind and taken him with her but one afternoon we saw him! He seemed a little bit afraid of us at first and would completely freeze and turn into a little statue but now he is much friendlier and more active and will walk right up to me. Such a funny guy, I love having him as my backyard buddy!

I've taken kind of a stupid amount of pictures of him because I think he's really cool but yesterday was the first time we got a photo together :)

I'm pretty sure Rampage makes the most awesome 90s floral printed gruge dresses, ever. Just swooped this one up from Goodwill earlier this week and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites :) I was having kind of a bad day when I found it. My car had broken down and while waiting for my ride I decided to walk to the Goodwill which luckily was not a mirage in the distance. So kind of crappy lame situation turned into awesome. Instead of waiting outside in the 115 degree heat I went shopping and found a new favorite dress for $10, win! Anyone else have a nearly disastrous day/week turned awesome by the little things?

Ps on a side note car troubles just ended up being the battery which is the least of car problems you can have. I was rescued and then jumped by bomb.com friends and my dad came over and put a new battery in. Seriously I'm so blessed....!

Album Artwork - The Cold Desert

I just finished some album artwork for an awesome local band called The Cold Desert. They are putting out a new EP and judging by what I've heard so far, it's going to be really amazing. One of my all time favorite people and long time friends Matt Klassen is the lead vocalist dude. I've absolutely loved watching this kid grow into quite the musical genius over the years and am so excited about this band and this new EP. YAYY!

Courtney Marie Andrews - Recording Studio Shoot

Yesterday afternoon I got to hang out with one of my favorite local musicians, Courtney Marie Andrews, and photo document the recording of her brand new album. So much fun!! The album sounds amazing and it was such a lovely day! Did I mention the recording studio was LEGIT?! Courtney is pretty much the bees knees and has been touring with Jimmy Eat World as a vocalist and they were kind enough to let her use their personal recording studio to record her personal work, om rad! Can't wait to hear the finished product it's going to be AMAZING! Yay for local awesome!

This dress may or may not seem familiar to you because I sort of kidnapped it out of the shop. It's one of my favorites and I was reluctant to put it for sale but it's been up for over a month and no one has purchased it so I'm putting it back into my closet for now mwhaahah :) Paired with a victoria secret lace blouse (ooohlala!), my favorite Dingo boots and of course a headband made by yours truly.

Summer Yum and Vegetarianism

This is sort of my first "food post" and is by no means a recipe, more an ode to things I think are very tasty. One of my favorite things to eat right now is a delicious summer salad with strawberries and apples, so yummy! I also love it with Cranberry, Walnut and Gorgonzola Salad dressing from Trader Joes = the best!

On a tangent about fruits and vegetables and vegetarianism, for most of my adult life people have assumed I'm a vegetarian, I think mainly because I'm pale and artsy looking and somewhat thin-ish and that is how vegetarians look, right?!? No, not really. I really don't mind when people assume that, it's just funny how often it happens. Ironically as of late I've sort of become an accidental vegetarian. I generally lean towards foods and restaurants that are vegetarian friendly. I don't remember when the last time was I bought any sort of meat item from the grocery store. I do occasionally like a good sandwich which might be hard to give up if I decided to become a real vegetarian. I don't really have any moral reason to become a vegetarian it just seems like something that may happen as I seem to be less and less interested in meaty things. I guess it's something I really should research even if I don't go all the way, just to make sure I'm getting the balanced diet I need with or without meat.

Anyone reading a vegetarian or vegan and want to give your experience or share any resources or favorite recipes? I'd love to get feedback :)

Hope everyone is having an excellent week! Mine is good so far. Had an awesome zombie movie night earlier this week, went out for sushi Thursday to celebrate beautiful Johanna's b-day and went to a pizza pool party last night. Today I get to sit and sip coffees and code websites, yay! It's actually an okay way to spend part of my Saturday. I feel like a bum when I don't accomplish anything productive during the span of a day so on a day like today where theres not much going on I'm okay with doing some work. Tonight on the other hand will be for friends and socialness, yay! Excited for a fun evening with some good people :)

New favorite summer dress! Just got it at Buffalo Exchange and it's perfect for the extreme Arizona heat. I absolutely adore the vintage inspired floral patterning and lace trim. I also love how extremely vibrant and colorful it is. Somewhere along the line my closet became a little bit too neutral and I'm excited to start breaking out of blacks and grays and into a fresh new summer palette :)

Summer Daze

It's been over a couple weeks since I've done an outfit post so here we are! It's been crazy hot here lately so I've been wearing a lot of extremely comfortable sleeveless cotton dresses. I'm still rockin the cowboy boots, which is not the most practical in 115 degree weather, but I love them too much ;)

I had quite a fantastic day yesterday. It started out with getting the AC fixed in my car which was glorious. I've pretty much always had a crappy car with little to no air conditioning so this was a really big deal. My first Arizona summer with a working air conditioning in my car!!! Totally different life experience :) In between dropping and picking up my car yesterday I pretty much got to hang out with Andre all day which was awesome. We started out with brunch at my one of my most favorite places then watched Breakfast at Tiffanys, which neither of us had seen before. Later in the evening we went on a double date with a few friends and finished the night off with a suprise b-day party for lovely Maria and then going away party for Nick-aroo. Pretty much got to see so many of my favorite people last night and it was pretty darn great :)

Words do not express how inspired I am by what this company is doing. 31 Bits is a collective whose mission is to use fashion and design to help women rise above poverty in Uganda. Basically each piece of the 31 bits jewelry is handmade by one of 83 women in Uganda, using 100% recycled paper and other local materials. The jewelry is absolutely stunning and every time a piece is bought it not only provides a sustainable means of income for the women involved but also takes them through a program that equips them by providing literacy education, financial and vocational training, holistic care, and strong support systems, empowering individuals to further their careers and attain social equity. I wasn't supposed to buy anything the other day while selling clothing to Buffalo Exchange but I had a ton of stuff and it was taking kind of a while for them to look through everything so as I waited I naturally looked around and when it was just about time to leave I spotted these beautiful shoes and immediately fell in looooove! They were marked sized 7 so I sighed in relief, since that's not my size therefore I wouldn't be obligated to purchase them. But then I was still waiting and decided to try them on and.....they fit perfectly! Oh dear. Next someone came up and handed me a five dollar off coupon. OKAY SHOES, you're MINE! It's way too difficult to resist things at Buffalo Exchange. There's just too much one of a kind awesome and it's so cheap and/or free if you trade stuff! So long story short, I have a new pair of favorite shoes :)

Ode to Southwestern-ness

Hope everyone is having a looovely Sunday! Mine has been excellent so far. This morning I woke up feeling extremely good which hasn't happened in awhile. For over a week I've been super dizzy and it looks like I might have vertigo?!? I'm still not positive but that's what it looks/feels like. Then the last two days on top of major dizzy I was having really bad migraines. So to wake up and not feel any of that was really really nice and definitely a gift from God. I'm so grateful to have a clear and creative head today :) Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!
