My First Solo Photo Show!

This past week I was invited to do a solo show at a really great gallery in Downtown Phoenix, Kitchen Sink Studios! This is actually my very first solo show so I'm quite excited. For you local friends who want to join the show will be Kitchen Sink Studios 828 N 3rd st, Phoenix 85004 (3rd st and Roosevelt) from 7 pm - 10 pm. Much prep work to do in the next few days but I am absolutely stoked!!

Upcoming Art Show at RUA Gallery Ohio

 

A couple of summers ago when I was interning with Transform NYC I met a super sweet and talented couple, Mike and Sarah Puckett. Well at the time they were Mike Puckett and Sarah Riedel two extremely kick butt painters who met, collaborated on some amazing art works, fell and love, got married and started a really cool Studio + Gallery called RUA in Ohio.

This year I've been invited to contribute to the 2011 Small Works show at RUA and am super excited! I just mailed out a box of perdy photos for the show and am hoping and praying they arrive in tact with no broken glass/picture frames. I won't actually get to go to the show but if anyone reading is in the area please check it out and take pictures for me! Theres going to be somewhere between 100-200 works by a number of artists from all over the US.  It should be a lot of fun and a ton of really great art. Check out more information here.

Art Bomb!

What a fun event! Last night we had our second quarterly annual Art Bomb and it was a blast! We were able to borrow the DayTwelve space which was perfect and a huge blessing. Last Art Bomb  we did sort of yard sale style and the art was on tables. This time we had a gallery to hang stuff up in as well as a kitchen to prepare foods and space for bands to play. Leigh and I had artwork up and Maria and Michelle of Refurban had some kick butt refurbished furniture and clothing. Music was provided by two great local acts Tobie Milford and Hurry the Rising. I think the best part of the evening though was all the great people that showed up. Seriously so many of my favorite people in the whole world all in one space. You made my night :) Such a good time!!

ARTBOMB 2.0!!

Guess what's happening this Saturday......ARTBOMB 2.0!!!! If you are a local join us on Saturday evening, March 26th at the Day | Twelve gallery in Phoenix in support of Valley artists, entrepreneurs and musicians. Enjoy wine, hors d'oeuvres and live music as you peruse the hand-made and vintage pieces on display. Music by the super talented Kevin Fisher, Hurry the Rising and Tobie Milford. Current list of artists include photography and vintage by yours truly, Oil, acrylic and watercolor canvases by Leigh Poplar, Handmade and reconstructed clothing by Michelle Merriman and Triple M Apparel,  Refurbished furniture and home decor by Maria Saporito and Michelle Merriman with Refurban Designs, Handmade cards and design work by Melissa Jensen and Letters & Loops, and a few other special surprises! Should be an excellent evening!!

Art Show!

 

I had an art show this weekend and it was so much fun! On top of being an exhibition opening it was also an opening party for the space, Day Twelve which is a community gallery and workspace connected to a church plant in down town Phoenix. Overall I would say the show was a success - great people great conversations and the tastiest of snacks! Oooh and of course great photography work! I showed alongside local photog rock stars Mike Olbinski, Dee Nichols, Charith Norvelle, Rick Young,  and Steve Lynch. Huge thanks to Alex of AVEstyles and Brian of DayTwelve for putting together a great opening!

Fairy Tale Reunion Series: The Final Piece

I know everyone has been on the edge of their seat waiting for this so here you go ;)! For anyone who was not able to make it to the exhibition just wanted to share the final images we used and a little bit of our process. Basically there were 7 different collaborative groups with artists of all different mediums from dance to photography to painting etc. Each group was given a word to prompt their creative process and this is what our group created around the word REUNION. We wanted to do something fun and light hearted that would make people smile but also that had a deeper meaning.  Here is our artist statement:

In order for a reunion to occur there has to be an initial separation or a break in the original union. Sometimes this separation happens because of distance, time or in many cases conflict. In this sense reunion is the return from disharmony or disconnection to harmony and connection. When a conflict stands between two parties, the conflict must be resolved before they can live in union again.

This piece tells the story of reunion through the familiar backdrop of fairy tales. In each scene, previously opposing characters are brought together to enjoy an activity that brings a new sort of harmony. In these retold visual stories, the point of conflict becomes the hinge upon which their relationship turns.

NYC Exhibition

So this past week has been quite intense as we have finally finished all of our projects and had our exhibition opening! There were seven collaborative projects in total half of which were installation, one live performance piece, one film and a couple more traditional illustration and photography pieces. The opening was a ton of fun and we had a pretty good turn out. A few of my friends from Arizona who have recently moved to the city were also able to make it which was super exciting. The show is still going through Sunday so if you are in town come and see it! I still have about a week and a half left in the city which should be a lot less busy and intense than the past month has been (yay!) I'm hoping to go to Coney Island and do a couple of just for fun photo shoots as well has hang out with friends who live in the city outside of project. Also I need to eat a hot dog. Thats on my list :D Hope your having a great weekend :)

Exhibition Flyer!

If you are in NYC and you see one of these flyers on the street, you should follow the directions on the back and come to our exhibition July 16-18! One because it's going to be awesome and two because I designed the flyers and they are rad. You will probably end up at home crying if you don't come. There will be that much regret and remorse. Too much awesomeness NOT to handle. End of story :D

PS I redesigned the my lil blog header. What do you think? It will probably constantly be changing. Initially when I started this blog I had a separate blog for my creative work but it was getting kind of awkward to have two blogs so they are both here now which is why I wanted to change the header to something that was more generic all encompassing that said this is the blog of Tiffany and her wacky and creative adventures :)
